NZCG

The NZCG is a unique festival of youth. The emphasis is on participation and personal achievement within the framework of the Olympic Spirit. It brings together young people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, in the spirit of friendship, unity and fair play. The Games are proudly based on the ideals and values of the Olympic Games.

Olympism

The games install the values of Olympism in all participants. The main goal of the Olympic Games is to use sport to promote the balanced development of people as an essential step in building a peaceful society that places high value on human dignity.

By blending sport with culture and education, Olympism promotes a way of life based on:

  • The balanced development of the body, will and mind.
  • The joy found in effort.
  • The educational value of being a good role model for others.
  • Respect for universal ethics including tolerance, generosity, unity, friendship, non-discrimination and respect for others.

History

NZCG began in 2000 and instantly became New Zealand youth's largest ever sporting event.

NZCG were started as an event to build on the enthusiasm generated by the Sydney Olympics in 2000. They are held on a four yearly cycle, coinciding with the Olympic year. The idea for the event came from a group of enthusiastic sports mad Hamiltonians who have since formed the NZCG Trust.
